Microsoft discovered a path traversal-affiliated vulnerability pattern in multiple popular Android applications that could enable a malicious application to overwrite files in the vulnerable application’s home directory. The implications of this vulnerability pattern include arbitrary code execution and token theft, depending on an application’s implementation. Arbitrary code execution can provide a threat actor with full control over an application’s behavior. Meanwhile, token theft can provide a threat actor with access to the user’s accounts and sensitive data.

We identified several vulnerable applications in the Google Play Store that represented over four billion installations. We anticipate that the vulnerability pattern could be found in other applications. We’re sharing this research so developers and publishers can check their apps for similar issues, fix as appropriate, and prevent introducing such vulnerabilities into new apps or releases.  As threats across all platforms continue to evolve, industry collaboration among security researchers, security vendors, and the broader security community is essential in improving security for all. Microsoft remains committed to working with the security community to share vulnerability discoveries and threat intelligence to protect users across platforms.

After discovering this issue, we identified several vulnerable applications. As part of our responsible disclosure policy, we notified application developers through Coordinated Vulnerability Disclosure (CVD) via Microsoft Security Vulnerability Research (MSVR) and worked with them to address the issue. Samsung starts Galaxy S24 One UI 7.0 development internally

A few days ago, Google released a new beta version of Android 15, and Samsung seems to have acted upon it and started beta development of Android 15-based One UI 7.0 software internally for the Galaxy S24 series. This is the first sign that Samsung is preparing for the One UI 7.0 Beta Program for its latest flagship smartphone series.

It has been revealed that Samsung has started internal development of One UI 7.0, which is likely based on Android 15. A new firmware that the company is internally testing for the Galaxy S24 Ultra has appeared on its servers. It bears firmware version S928BXXU2BXE2, and if you can notice, the fourth letter from the right has changed from A (in current firmware version S928BXXU1AXCB) to B, which only happens for major One UI versions.

So yeah, I thought I’d start this article by addressing the obvious first: Yes, third-party launchers can fix many issues in Samsung’s approach to home screens and app launchers in One UI 6.1, but why should I need them to get the most basic feature of all?

Why should I install a third-party app and risk small hiccups or a less-than-optimal experience in my app switcher only to get a feature that should’ve been available by default?

Why do I need third-party software to fix Samsung’s obstinate removal of a feature that’s been in Android since Marshmallow?

Why, of all the customization options available in One UI that let me tailor the design and experience to my liking in every minute detail, is there no option to make the app lists scroll vertically and continuously, instead of going inefficiently, page by page and horizontally?
