HANNIBAL — The Hannibal Art Club announced the award recipients for its 60th annual area artist exhibit and competition, ORiGINALE on September 20.
Award winners received a ribbon and cash awards. The exhibit features 116 original works by 61 local artists. Works on exhibit include oil/oil pastel, drawings/prints, water media, sculpture/assemblage, mixed media and acrylics.
Best of Show awards were Libby Ruth Campbell and Amanda Strudwick. Campbell won the Dr. Michael & Sherry Bukstein Best of Show Award for her fiber wall hanging titled The Gifts of Imperfection in the Non-Professional Division. Strudwick won the Barrick-Gaines Best of Show Award for her oil on canvas titled Presence and Proximity #1 in the Professional Division.
Pinnacle Awards were Catherine Vernetti and Tim O’Neal. Vernetti won the Bill Beucke Memorial Award for her pastel titled Gone Fishin’ in the Non-Professional Division. O’Neal won the Independent’s Service Company Award for his oil painting titled Rolled Cloth and Remnants in the Professional Division.
Achievement Awards were Kachina Hudson and Mary Jo Kattelman. Hudson won the Hannibal Art Club Founders Award for her mixed media painting Muted in the Non-Professional Division. Kattelman won the James O’Donnell Funeral Home Award for her sculpture/assemblage titled Last Walk in the Professional Division.
Five Excellence Awards were presented in each division. Winners in the Non-Professional Division were: Fiddlestiks Food & Spirits Award – Into the Jaws of Death by Brandon Todd; ORiGINALE Friends Award – Untitled 1969 by Greg Celenze; Dempsey, Dempsey & Hilts Award – Saturday Night Live by Faye Dant; Aaron Gregonis Award – Hiking with Papa by Betty Smith; Betty Pfaff and Robert “Bob” G. Richards III Memorial Award – Water Lilies by Linda Rudicil. Winners in the Professional Division were: June & Donald Stolte & Susan Resnick Memorial Award – Arrival of the Sun by Austin Roberts; F&M Bank and Trust Award – Ticket to the Show by Kelly Eddington; HNB Bank Award – Eat Me by James Zimmerman; Linda Buechting Memorial Award – Nova by Peyton A. Wiseman; Jerry Robbins Memorial Award – Diary of a Starving Artist by Howard Kuo.
Five Merit Awards were presented in each division. Winners in the Non-Professional Division were: Dr. Joshua Ricker DDS Award – Cairo by Martha Walden; Doris Ahrens Memorial Award – Lemons Galore – Sorrento Italy by Carol Robbins; Mary Ann Viorel Award – The Drifter by Rick Scheer; Quincy Artists Guild Award – Dare to be Different by Lynn Zielinski; Toto Rendlen Award – Sunflowers, Lemons and Limes by Jan Gregonis. Winners in the Professional Division were: Great River Watercolor Society Award – Woodpile by Brenda Benson; Quincy Artists Guild Award – Thumbs Up! (Joy Series) by Cindy Logan; Steven Viorel Award – Rockin’ the Opera by Brenda Beck Fisher; Gallery 310 Award – The Ladies Man by Kay Sutherland; Toto Rendlen Award – As Kings Love Their Queens by Steven Walker.
Recipients of additional Honorable Mention Awards were Portland Crows by Sandra Eccles and America’s Hometown by Brandon Todd in the Non-Professional Division and Simple St. by Larry Siwek and Chicago Sunlight by Debra Scoggin/Myers in the Professional Division.
The 2024 judge was Aaron Fine, Art Professor and Art Department Chair at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
The exhibit is on display at the Hannibal Arts Council until Saturday, October 26. Gallery hours are Noon to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
