OnePlus OxygenOS 13.1 rollout adds cellular sharing, app switching, and more

What you need to know

  • OnePlus rolls out another OTA update for OxygenOS 13.1, which activates several new features.
  • Users can access “Auto Connect,” which creates a seamless experience across a user’s OnePlus phone and Pad.
  • App Relay Playing function allows users to begin a show or document on their phone and then transfer it to their tablet without interruption.
  • OnePlus phones can also share their cellular connection with other devices.

OnePlus is beginning the rollout of another update for its OxygenOS 13.1 software for its tablet and line of phones.

OnePlus is rolling out an over-the-air (OTA) update for OxygenOS 13.1 for the OnePlus 8T up to the OnePlus 11 and 11R. This software update will bring a few notable features beginning with “Auto Connect.” The Chinese OEM states the Auto Connect feature will create a “seamless connection” between a consumer’s OnePlus devices.

This feature allows users to utilize cross-screen functions for notifications and to easily copy and paste information from their phone to their Pad and vice-versa. The company informs that the OnePlus Pad launched with this ability pre-installed.

Bluetooth, quick connect, and auto connect must be enabled on both devices to access this convenient feature. OnePlus states users can head into Settings > Connection Settings to ensure these connection options are enabled.

The new App Relay Playing function is OnePlus’ “innovative” feature which plays on their devices’ multi-screen connection capabilities, essentially enabling a screencast on another device. For example, opening a supported app (such as TikTok) on their phone will display a phone icon atop the same app on their OnePlus Pad. That user could then tap it and resume what they were doing on their tablet without interruption.

All the apps you can safely remove from your OnePlus phone

Clear out the bloatware from your new OnePlus phone

OnePlus devices have traditionally had less bloatware than other devices, but they still have plenty of preinstalled apps. While most of these apps are helpful, you may want to uninstall these OnePlus apps if you want a Google-free environment, as OnePlus phones come with most of Google’s apps preinstalled.

Depending on which OnePlus phone you have, the preinstalled apps may vary. We used the newly announced OnePlus 11 here, but you can use this guide as a reference if you have an older model.

ANDROIDPOLICE VIDEO OF THE DAY

How to uninstall apps on a OnePlus phone

If an app shows “Disable” instead of “Uninstall,” that means the app cannot be completely removed from the device. However, disabling it removes the icon from your app drawer and deletes most of its data.

  1. Tap and hold an app.
  2. Tap Uninstall.
  3. Tap Uninstall again on the pop-up window.

You can also tap App Info to delete the app from its dedicated Settings page.

To re-enable a disabled app, head to your Apps page in your OnePlus phone’s Settings app. Find the disabled app and tap Enable to reinstall any necessary files.

What preinstalled apps can I uninstall on my OnePlus phone?

Most of the preinstalled apps on OnePlus phones are Google apps, which are easy to uninstall and replace. However, you need to find a workaround if you uninstall the Play Store app to find new apps.

Some apps listed below may only be disabled, but most can be removed entirely from your device. Other apps not on this list can also be disabled or uninstalled, but removing these apps may cause your device to work incorrectly.

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • OnePlus announced its OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is launching globally on February 7, 2023.
  • Its TWS earbuds will be among the first to support Android 13’s spatial audio feature.
  • The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will be able to connect with two Android devices at the same time.

OnePlus’s Cloud 11 event is just around the corner. One of the gadgets that will be making an appearance at the event will be the company’s OnePlus Buds Pro 2, which will be one of the first to support Android 13’s spatial audio with head tracking feature.

One of the many features Google has fit into Android 13 is spatial audio. Since the feature just rolled out this month, there aren’t a whole lot of devices that support it yet. Google plans on adding support to its Pixel Buds Pro, but hasn’t released a firmware update for it yet.

As a result, it looks like the upcoming Buds Pro 2 is going to be one of the first to support the feature. OnePlus has confirmed that its new earbuds will take advantage of Android 13’s spatial audio with head tracking, as well as its own spatial rendering algorithm and IMU sensor, to deliver 3D audio experiences.

In addition, the company revealed that its earbuds will also use Android’s Fast Pair and audio switching features. According to OnePlus, this will allow the Buds Pro 2 to connect with two Android devices at the same time, allowing users to switch audio sources quickly without having to mess with Bluetooth settings.

“With Android 13, we added spatial audio functionality with the opportunity for partners to use it within their own devices,” said Erik Kay, VP of Engineering at Android. “With OnePlus integrating this new framework alongside support for Fast Pair
