OnePlus Open update for December 2023 is here

OnePlus has already pushed out Oxygen OS 14 — based on Android 14 — to the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 10 Pro. However, the company’s other major recent flagship, the foldable OnePlus Open, is still on Android 13. Unfortunately, an update rolling out right now does not change this status.

Our OnePlus Open, located in India, just received a new update. It lands as firmware CPH2551_13.2.0.201(EX01) and is 508.98MB in size. It is based on Oxygen OS 13.2 and includes the November 2023 Android security patch. You can check out images with the complete changelog below.

The highlight change here is for the camera. With this OnePlus Open update for December 2023, you can now set a specific exposure value while taking a photo. It only works in Photo mode, so you won’t be able to alter it while in other camera modes, unfortunately. However, it will still be a nice new perk for photographers using the quite impressive camera on the Open.

With this update landing today, it looks unlikely that OnePlus will get Android 14 to its first foldable phone before the end of the year. Hopefully, the Open will get the newest version of Android in January.

Google Docs for Android will open straight into edit mode

Google is making a change to what it calls the “First Open Experience” that will launch Docs in edit mode, with Sheets and Slides also getting a “more creation-focused experience.”

Opening a document in the Google Docs app will launch in edit mode immediately, where you can start typing immediately instead of having to first tap the pencil FAB in the bottom-right corner.

The I-beam cursor is ready for immediate text input if you have a keyboard attached, while a tap brings up the virtual one. Google says the formatting toolbar will also be more visible. Opening in edit mode should save some time and reflects the desktop behavior, but I do use the preview mode from time to time.

Meanwhile, Google Sheets for Android is getting large tap targets, and “tapping once exposes the formula bar, tab bar, and a contextual formatting toolbar.”

Google Slides will immediately show the filmstrip preview of your entire deck at the left, while “selecting an object exposes the contextual toolbar and an on-screen keyboard.” Overall, this makes Google’s editor apps less for previewing content made elsewhere and more about creating on the go.

Your Google Pixel is bringing back a time-saving option to open apps

The option to hit enter to directly launch an app from search is rolling out again


Not too long ago, it was possible to use the Pixel Launcher to open apps right from the app drawer search by hitting the enter button, with no need to stretch your thumb to the top of the results to select the first result. This option was taken away with Android 13, but it’s now bound to make a return via a server-side update after previously making an appearance in a beta build.

Once the update hits your phone, you’ll see that the first app result in search is highlighted with an oval background, which indicates that you can tap enter rather than the result itself to jump right into it. As 9to5Google spotted, the so-called Quick Launch feature is rolling out as a server-side update to a few people. So far, the publication was only able to see it on the latest stable release of Android 13 with the May security update, but the feature is not necessarily limited to this version of the OS only.

The feature was originally present in earlier versions of the Pixel Launcher, but Google took it away when it unified search across the search bar on the home screen and within the app drawer that shows up when you swipe up. Previously, it was possible to use this quick launch feature in the app drawer search, but not in the home screen search. The new capability was originally spotted in Android 13 QPR2 before it went stable, where it was possible to activate it using ADB commands.
