SIONYX debuts mobile app, firmware update for helmet-mounted digital night vision monocular

By Police Staff

BEVERLY, Mass. — SIONYX recently debuted its new mobile app and firmware update to its helmet-mounted digital night vision monocular.

OPSIN, the company’s helmet-mounted monocular, features its XQE-1350 Black Silicon sensor to deliver ultra-low-light images and video recording to assist during surveillance and firearms training.

The new app, which is compatible with Android and iOS devices, includes enhancements to the heads-up display, as well as new modes and features. Moreover, the 2.0.0 upgrades improve usability with an updated interface and features that allow users to carry out tasks under a variety of environmental conditions.

Other features and updates include:

  • Advanced image processing: OSPIN 2.0 includes advanced low-light user experience options.
  • Region Of Interest (ROI) mode update: This filter enables the handling of high dynamic scenes, including those involving lasers or IR illumination. The filter has three options: wide, narrow and off.
  • Monochrome mode: For low-light conditions, the monochrome mode gives users the option to view images in grayscale to provide images that are easier to interpret.
  • 2D noise filter: This is mainly used in outdoor environments with busy scenes. The filter reduces noise, creates better-quality images and gives the user a natural visual experience.
  • Improved location services: The update includes enhancements to the digital magnetic compass and GPS satellite data display.

Check out these updates and more at SIONYX’s booth #75111 at SHOT Show 2024 in Las Vegas.

First Chromecast with Google TV update of 2024 rolling out

Google is rolling out the first update of 2024 for the Chromecast with Google TV 4K.

STTL.231114.004 (from STTE.230915.005.S1) bumps the Android security patch level to Dec 2023. You also get “other bug fixes and performance improvements” with this 148MB update that took longer than usual to install on my device.

There’s no Chromecast Remote firmware update after installing. The last release was in early December with the October 2023 security patch.

For reference, Google delivered six system updates — January, April, May, July, October, December — to the Chromecast in 2023. That first one arrived at around the same time.

You’re still on Android 12 with this 2024 update, while we’re not seeing Fast Pair enabled on the Chromecast with Google TV yet. At the start of January, Google announced that Fast Pair support would be rolling out to the Chromecast “in the next month.” This will give you a “Connect now” prompt for seamless Bluetooth headphone pairing.
