The Pitch: Advertising and marketing news for 7.30.24



Virginia Tourism Corp. released the third season of its video web series My Home Virginia, airing on the agency’s website and YouTube channel and in Virginia welcome centers. The latest episodes focus on Virginia’s role in the lives of local athletes who call Virginia home, including Jon Lugbill of Richmond nonprofit Sports Backers. The series is part of the agency’s overall marketing efforts to promote state tourism.

Evergib created a website for Richmond artist and creativity consultant Noah Scalin to promote his speaking engagements. The agency is working with Karnes Coffey Design on a rebrand for Prologue, a local building documentation firm. It’s also doing a website refresh for local design firm 3North and promotion work for nonprofit JFS Richmond.

A Brandcenter student team won a D&AD New Blood Black Pencil at this year’s D&AD New Blood Awards. The Black Pencil award recognizing groundbreaking design and advertising is the first for a Brandcenter team and one of three awarded this year.

Team members on the “Adobe: Scan to Revolt” campaign included copywriting students Henry Coffey, Callum Leitenberg and Boyan Zlatarski, creative brand management student Emma Kerencheva and art direction student Alex Ward. Two other Brandcenter teams won Graphite Pencil and Wood Pencil awards for their “Durex: Say Condom” and “Kraft: Self Care” campaigns, and four students were recognized for their portfolio websites. The Martin Agency released a campaign for UScellular. The “Ironic” campaign includes a 60-second spot starring singer Alanis Morissette, Fierce Network reports.

Dotted Line hired Ron Villacarillo as head of creative. Villacarillo was previously executive creative director at Yebo, where he led accounts such as Virginia Lottery, SweetFrog, and Elephant Insurance. He’s also worked at Martin Agency and has been an adjunct professor at the Brandcenter.

Addison Clark is providing search engine optimization services to Virginia Spirits Board Marketing Office, a marketing arm of the Virginia Spirits Board that is operated by The Hodges Partnership. Addison Clark is providing SEO and social media advertising and strategy to Midlothian-based Lewis Plastic Surgery. The agency also produced a video for Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority for its Virginia Area Health Education Center website.

Lloyd R Leitstein Marketing & Public Relations selected two students for its sports marketing internship program. Jennifer Cooper is a student at Central Michigan University and Esther Shkolnikov is a University of California Santa Barbara graduate. Former intern Ashlyn Blotzer, a Portland State University alum, is interning with the agency again this year.
