WVUR SourceStock returns with great rock vibe | Arts & Entertainment

It’s time to pump up the volume and rock until your heart desires. WVUR 95.1 The Source, Valparaiso University’s very own student-run radio station, is preparing for its annual live music festival, SourceStock.
Headlining the musical entertainment is The Orchard, with a special opening performance by Pool Hall. Both Chicago rock bands plan to liven up Valpo’s campus during the night of festivities.
“[I would describe the bands] as having an alternative rock vibe, kind of like what you already hear on The Source. [General Manager Sean Batson] and I wanted to switch it up from the country theme we had last year so we wouldn’t repeat the same thing two years in a row,” said WVUR Music and Productions Director Dylan Murphy.
SourceStock, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, has been on a steady incline, with this year expected to be no exception.
“[Two years ago], it was in the Harre Union Ballrooms and maybe around 50 people came. Last year, we hosted it in the Phi Sigma Kappa house and we were able to reach a broader campus community because the Fraternity and Sorority Life community saw it as, ‘Hey, it’s in one of our houses. Why not go?’ instead of it being on campus like the year before [so we wanted to continue that this year as well],” Murphy said.
This year’s festivities will take place—once again—off campus at the Phi Sigma Kappa house, with an emphasis on community outreach and engagement.
“I think it’s a great [opportunity for students] to see musical acts they probably wouldn’t have heard of before, interact with other members of the [campus community] and realize that WVUR isn’t just about sitting in our studio playing music,” Murphy said. “We’re so much more than that and it allows for greater outreach to different campus organizations [and communities].”
While SourceStock 2025 is free for all Valpo students with a valid OneCard, the music festival comes to life through months of hard work and dedication from the WVUR staff.
“It’s a lot more meaningful for me this year because I’m more involved than I was last year. I took a lot of creative liberty with this, like designing the flyer you’ll see around campus. It just means a lot more to me because I have a bigger role in planning it this year than I did last year [and I hope people really engage with it],” Murphy said.
Be sure to mark your calendar and attend the concert on Saturday, April 4, at the Phi Sigma Kappa house, located at 607 Union St. Doors open at 8:15 p.m., with the musical performances beginning at 8:45 p.m. Follow @thesource95 on Instagram for more information and upcoming events.
